Spoiler alert: this lunchbox wasn’t created just to be cute.
It was created because I was a tired teacher with leaky containers and a tote bag that was not up for the job.
So I designed a better one. And now, other busy moms, teachers, and bagmakers are sewing it on repeat for back-to-school—and beyond.
As a special education assistant teacher, I pack my lunch daily—real meals in real containers. But I couldn’t find a lunchbox that checked all the boxes:
So I sat down at my machine and created the Let’s Eat Lunchbox—a sewing pattern that solves all those problems and gives you something to be proud of.
Here’s what makes this bag a back-to-school favorite:
🟣 Extra-wide bottom – Say goodbye to sideways soup spills
🟣 Magnetic flap + side buckle combo – Keeps the bag secure and professional-looking
🟣 Roomy interior – Plenty of space for containers, snacks, utensils, and more
🟣 Beginner-friendly with pro results – Step-by-step instructions, color photos, and smart design choices
🟣 Fabric cutting checklist included – So you don’t forget a thing

Want to keep things cooler for longer? Swap in insulated interfacing like Insul-Bright to help regulate temperature.

A waterproof or water resistant canvas lining is ideal for catching spills and wiping clean.

Save time and skip strap sewing with premade cotton or nylon webbing straps. You can match them to your outer fabric or go bold with contrast.
This bag makes a great gift. Choose themed fabrics to reflect the recipient:
🎵 Music notes for a choir teacher
🎨 Crayons or palettes for an art teacher
🔬 STEM prints for a science or math student
🧩 Coffee-themed fabric for... any adult, really
While this pattern is perfect for students and teachers, it’s also a smart choice for:
You don’t need a fancy machine to sew this bag—just smart techniques and a little confidence.
