If you’ve been wanting a quick sewing project that’s actually useful, this is one of my favorites.
A keychain wristlet (also called a key fob) is one of those small projects that comes together fast, uses minimal fabric, and makes your everyday life just a little easier. No more digging around for your keys—they’re right where you need them.

In this tutorial, I’m showing you two simple ways to finish your key fob wristlet:
Both options are beginner-friendly and can be finished in one sitting.
If you’re making a simple key fob, Pellon 809 works really well and keeps things easy.
If you want something a little more structured—especially for a wristlet you’ll attach to a handbag—I recommend a lightweight woven fusible like Pellon SF101. It gives a cleaner, more stable finish.
If you’ve ever felt confused about which interfacing to use for your projects, I break it all down in my Sew Better Bags guide, including what to use, when to use it, and how to get clean, professional results.
If you’re just getting started, the sewn finish is a great place to begin.
If you already have rivets (or want to try them), the rivet finish gives your key fob a more finished look.
There’s no wrong choice—just depends on what you have on hand and the look you prefer.
If you enjoyed this one, you can find more beginner-friendly bagmaking patterns here.
This is one of those projects that’s hard to stop at just one—once you make one, you’ll probably want to make a few more.
Happy Sewing!
