Featuring the charming Smitten Chicken fabric collection by Poppie Cotton.
There's something special about giving a handmade gift.
Whether you're sewing for a hostess, a friend, a family member, or simply creating something beautiful for your own home, handmade gifts have a way of feeling thoughtful and personal.
When I received the Smitten Chicken fabric collection by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton, I immediately fell in love with the cheerful chickens, sweet florals, and classic gingham prints. The combination of aqua, red, pink, and white feels fresh, cheerful, and perfectly suited for gift-worthy projects.
Instead of making just one project, I decided to create a coordinated farmhouse-inspired gift set using two of my beginner-friendly sewing patterns: the Gifted Stitches Basket and the Grapeful Tote.

The Gifted Stitches Basket was the perfect project for showcasing the white chicken print paired with the red gingham.
This basket comes together quickly and is one of those projects you'll find yourself making again and again because there are so many ways to use it.
Some of my favorite ideas include:

I love how the chicken print becomes the focal point while the gingham lining and handle add that classic farmhouse charm.
For the Grapeful Tote, I chose the aqua chicken print with coordinating aqua gingham handles.
While this pattern was originally designed as a bottle gift tote, it's surprisingly versatile and can be used for much more than wine.
It's perfect for gifting:

This pattern sews up quickly and instantly elevates even the simplest gift.
One reason I love using these patterns for fabric collections is that they allow the fabric to be the star.
Both projects:
If you've ever purchased a fabric collection and wondered what to make with it, projects like these are a great way to showcase your favorite prints without committing to a larger project.
What I love most about these two projects together is how they create a complete gift experience.
Imagine gifting:

It's practical, beautiful, and something the recipient can continue using long after the treats are gone.
The Gifted Stitches Basket is a beginner-friendly sewing pattern that's perfect for organizing, decorating, and gift giving.

Together, these three patterns give you several options for creating thoughtful handmade gifts throughout the year.
The Smitten Chicken collection is full of cheerful colors and charming details that practically beg to be turned into something useful and beautiful.
These two projects were such a joy to sew, and I hope they inspire you to pull out your favorite fabrics and create a few handmade gifts of your own.
Happy Sewing,
Amanda
